Damien's breath caught in his throat as Julius grasped his hand. He wasn't used to much physical contact, let alone holding hands (if this could really be considered holding hands with someone). He opened his mouth to speak, only to be caught off guard as he was twirled around like a ballroom dancer. Stumbling and stuttering a bit, he pulled back from Julius. "Y-yeah, I'm fine. Thanks for always doing such a good job of protecting me..." he half-mumbled. At the sight of the magi's sincere smile, he looked away, slightly flushed and unwilling to make eye contact.
"Um, is it ever..." he began, rubbing awkwardly at his arm, "Is it ever a burden for me to be here with you? It's kind of selfish of me to always ask to come along to see you do these amazing things, and I bet you'd probably have an easier time if you didn't have to worry about me." His tone was deflated and a bit guilty. "I just wish I could help you..."

Julius blinked at the question. He could have just been frank and said "Yes, you being of absolutely no contribution to combat and getting in the way of everything is proving to be irritating and I'd like you to find something else better to do with your worthless time." but that would have been too harsh on the timid boy, so of course he couldn't just outright say a thing like that and expect him not to well up in tears.
But knowing Damien actually wanting to assist him in battles against witches caused him to hatch a brilliant idea. Especially when he mentioned the word /wish/. "I can't lie to you, it does get..difficult to handle a witch and having to watch out for you at the same time. And I would feel terrible if something happened to you like last time.." Julius glanced away from Damien in shame, and also to add dramatic effect to his words. "I'm sure I told you about how I acquired my magic, didn't I? Maybe you could also-- No..forget I said anything. I couldn't possibly ask you to become a magi just so you can assist me. It'd be too selfish of me to ask you for such a thing." Julius stepped away from Damien with a disappointed expression. He eagerly waited for Damien to take the bait, trying with all of his might to keep his cheshire grin from showing through.

Damien's frown deepened when his worries were confirmed. He really hadn't meant to be a burden on the magi, but the world of witches and magic was so exciting, and he had selfishly wanted to be a part of it. He perked up at Julius's discarded statement. Was he really saying... Did he really think that Damien could become a magi? The ideas was denied as soon as it was voiced, but Damien's heart was pumping furiously. He grasped Julius's arm and looked up at him pleadingly. "Do you.. do you think that I even could? That I wouldn't be too weak to be able to do anything?" he asked.
He had been so certain that he'd never be able to do the things that Julius did that he had never even considered becoming a magi as an option. But was it possible? Could he really be that amazing, fighting witches and wielding magic?

All Julius heard from Damien's mouth was the upbeat tune a slot machine would make when someone won the jackpot. "Of course I do." He reassured him, bringing his own hand to Damien's and looking at him with a gentle gaze. "I have faith that you could become a great magi. Powerful enough to protect the people you care for without worrying you'll be a burden. You have the potential." Julius continued as he brought his other hand to Damien's face, grazing his pale cheek lightly. "And I truly believe that. I would never lie to you, you know that, right?"

Damien felt his face heating up underneath Julius's touch and swallowed thickly, hoping that the magi wouldn't be able to feel it (not realizing he'd probably be able to see the blush easily against his pasty skin). He trembled in uncertainty, but didn't shy away from the physical contact he was so unused to, too transfixed by that sweet gaze and those honeyed words. His head was spinning; could this really happen to him? Could he really become a magi? Fighting monsters alongside Julius sounded like a dream come true, and if Julius really thought he had what it takes, then it must be true. Right?
"J-Julius, I..." he mumbled, glancing away. "I-I want to become a magi. Like you." He looked back up at Julius, his gaze pleading. "Can you take me to meet Bater?"

"I would be more than happy to." Julius replied. "I'd have to search around for him first, though. I hope you don't mind waiting a bit."
"No need!" A child-like voiced called to the two boys. A cat shaped figure sat atop the ledge of a large stained glass window above Julius and Damien, its red eyes almost glinting in the moonlit rays coming through the multicolored glass. "If that is what you want, I can make you a magi right here, right now." Bater said with a swish of his tail. He hopped from the window and gracefully landed on the floor near the two and sat down. "What would you like to wish for?" He asked, tilting his head a bit.

The incubator's voice sent a chill down Damien's spine. Had it been watching them this whole time? The creature was undeniably adorable, but its ruby gaze was somehow unsettling. I can make you a magi right here, right now. Damien's heart pumped furiously, adrenaline coursing through him and making him shake slightly. This was a huge decision; if he made the wish, he would be signing himself up to put his life on the line constantly to fight witches. But Julius had done it, hadn't he? And now he fought to protect people from the monsters that roamed the town and ensnared hapless civilians. It was certainly the noble thing to do, and if he contracted, he could protect people alongside Julius and help reduce the risk of the other boy getting killed.
Damien turned to Bater and knelt down on the floor in front of the creature, almost reverently. He swallowed and took a deep breath, trying to calm his jarring nerves. "I... I wish..."

((bleh this version of skype im using has a character limit, so i'll have to break up my posts. srry ; ; )) Julius entered the lodge with his suitcases in tow and a perpetual glare planted upon his face. "It's. Too. Cold." He mumbled in annoyance. First, he overslept, then he couldn't find his cellphone anywhere, and to top it off it was cold as sin outside. Winter was probably by far his least favorite season, but he couldn't deny he enjoyed the fashion that came along with it and he was NOT about to pass up on the chance to finally break out that snazzy overcoat he's been dying to wear all year. The only redeeming factor about the trip so far was that he'd have his lackey, Damien, there to keep him from getting too bored with the vacation.
When the two entered the lounge area, Julius almost did a double take when he spotted a familiar face among the high schoolers. Why, it was Viola! So that'd mean he would have two people he knew to keep him sane for the duration of the trip. Goody. He thought to wave at her to get her attention, but she looked like she was a little busy conversing with some other students he was unfamiliar with, so instead he took a seat near the fire place. "Damien." He called to the bespectacled boy and patted the seat next to him, gesturing for him to sit. "What do you think of this place so far? Honestly, I was ready to go back as soon as we left the dorm this morning." Julius yawned.

"I guess that's true. The security back there was damn annoying." Julius replied, followed by another yawn. It was obvious he didn't get enough sleep last night by the amount of yawning he was doing. It was near impossible to try falling asleep on the bus, as everyone was too noisy and the bumpiness of the road kept him wide awake.
On a whim, Julius glanced back over to where Viola was sitting and noticed the quick wink she made, immediately knowing what that could have meant. She had a plan and he would definitely be in on it. That alone was enough to finally bring a grin to his face.
"Damiennnn." Julius whined. "Could you go get me a cup of coffee? I remember hearing that you get your first cup free if you have your student ID on you." He shuffled around his his coat pocket a bit before pulling out his student ID and handing it to the other boy. "Black, two sugars, lots of cream." He smiled.

"Thank you, Damien." Julius said, taking the cup from from the boy's hands with his usual smile. Noticing the extra drink in the boy's hands, he immediately figured it was probably for himself, so of course he grabbed that cup too. "What did you get?" Julius wasted no time taking a sip of the cup of cocoa. "Hm, not bad. Though I'm surprised you didn't get any of those cute little marshmallows. You seemed like the type to like those." He chuckled and handed it back to Damien.
He blew on his own cup a little before downing the entire thing like it was a bottle of liquor. He let out a large exhale as he sat his cup on the coffee table before him. "Well, I certainly feel buzzed." He said, sitting up from his chair and beginning to stretch. "I could go for another one of those. How much are they?"

Julius was pleasantly surprised to see there was a method of getting a free drink by doing something so simple. He could always just save himself the trouble and just use his debit card to pay for another coffee, but the idea he had in mind seemed too amusing to just ignore. "Come with me for a minute." He said to Damien, pointing his thumb to where Viola was sitting so that he'd know where they were headed.
"Hey, Vi." He greeted the brunette as he approached. He looked over at the black haired girl that had been talking to Viola and gave a slight nod to her as a greeting. He wouldn't want to seem too rude for cutting into the conversation like that. "Do you mind if I borrow her for a sec? We've got some...important things to discuss."

Julius's expression lit up when he heard her mentions of a plan. "That's funny because I just so happen to have a plan myself." He whispered back with a glance at Damien. "Mine just involves getting another free cup of coffee. You know about that promotion this place is having, yeah?" He whispered just quietly enough so that the other boy wouldn't hear. He bounced his eyebrows up and down so that she'd catch his drift. "But enough about that. What could you possibly have in mind?" Julius asked eagerly.

Julius grinned at the offer. "Is that even a question?" He replied with a light chuckle. Figuring he didn't have a reason to whisper anymore, he returned to speaking normally. "I'm in of course. But how about we go get those second rounds of drinks first, shall we?" He made sure to make it appear as if he was speaking only to Viola so that Damien would be completely in the dark about what his motives were. It wouldn't be as much fun if he were aware of what was about to happen, now would it? "Damien, you can come along too." He told the boy.
He wasted no time leading the two to the mistletoe that was hanging near the cafe station and motioned Damien to come a bit closer, getting him in the right position. "W-what was that?!" Julius suddenly yelped to surprise Damien so that he wouldn't notice the incoming kiss. As soon as the golden eyed boy saw he had an opening, he leaned down and planted a smooch right on his cheek.

There it was. That was the exact reaction he was hoping for out of Damien, and boy, was it utterly priceless. The fact that he couldn't even speak made the whole thing even more satisfying. "I'd say that counts as another free drink. Isn't that right, sir?" He called over to the barista. "Yes indeed. One for each of you, actually." The barista replied, quickly setting out three cups for the trio on the counter for them to take.
Julius casually took a cup and poured himself the usual black coffee with roasted blue mountain cocoa bean. "See, I'm not alone in this. Even Vi thinks you'd drink your hot chocolate with those little marshmallows." He chimed in as he was pouring in a great amount of coffee creamer into his caffeinated drink. After preparing his coffee to his liking, he rejoined his two acquaintances, one of which was still in a shock induced trance. "So, about what you had in mind, Vi? I'm all ears."

Julius didn't happen to take notice of Damien separating himself from he and Viola. He was so use to having his timid companion tailing him everywhere that he didn't think he'd need to keep an eye out for the boy in the lounge. He pulled out the seat Vi had offered him and began to listen to her plot attentively, taking a few sips out of his piping hot coffee while doing so. He almost spat out his drink at her proposal of changing the boring old, played out Christmas jingles to something more...interesting. "Do you mind if I ask who this 'Riley' is?" He asked with a look to the teenagers conversing in the lounge area. He made the assumption that it could have been someone from one of the two high schools.
