The wrought-iron gates of De Nuit Academy stand wide open; the gesture is meant to look welcoming, but the ominous curls and spikes of black metal create an eerie effect. The sky is grey and gloomy; the sun can rarely be coaxed to shine on such a dark place. Shoes squeak on the cobblestone road and dew-coated lawns leading up to the entrance. Today is the first day of a new school year. Students new and old wander into the vast campus, filled will a strange mixture of hope and anxiousness. Depending on the luck of the draw, one's school life at De Nuit can either be the most incredible experience of one's life, or the most terrifying. The halls are filled with both strong friendships and intense rivalries, exciting discoveries and painful mistakes, generous kindness and cruel torment. It's to be expected of a school of magic and monsters, where you can learn anything from healing spells to blood rituals, encounter anyone from a sweet fairy to a hungry vampire. Injury is common, and even death tends to grace the halls once or twice a year. But despite the danger- or, perhaps, because of it- De Nuit is one of the most sought-after schools of its kind. It sharpens its students to a razor-edge, and those who graduate are nearly guaranteed to do well in whatever they pursue. This is what draws so many, year after year, to its darkened halls.
While returning students quickly fall back into the old school pattern, reforming groups of friends and settling into the dorms with ease, new students have it a bit more difficult. Many of them wander around just past the entrance, clutching at pamphlets and trying to figure where to go. A cat-eared girl, bearing the mark of a prefect on her jacket, attempts to usher them to the main office.
"New students this way!" she shouts, trying to gain attention by waving both arms in the air. "All new students please sign off on our attendance list and then see the dorm advisors to be assigned your room number! In one hour there will be an orientation ceremony, so please be sure to settle in and make your way to the auditorium by then!"

((Okay, just a few rules before we get started. -Make sure to put out of character comments in brackets or parentheses like this -Write in 3rd person past tense to avoid confusion (yes I know this post was in present tense but it just seemed to work better) -If you have your character do something to someone else's character (hitting them, suddenly kissing them, calling them a name, even just talking) give them a chance to respond to the action before your character does something else -Don't maim or kill someone else's character without their permission. If there's a fight, decide beforehand who's going to win. Trust me, it can get messy otherwise. -Post your characters in the Students thread first please! I still need to pair up roommates.
That's about all for now; have fun everyone!))

Simon Hawthorne wandered slightly around the school entrance, glancing around intently. To an onlooker, he may have appeared lost, but for the fact that he was looking specifically at the other students. He scrutinized them, trying to get an idea of who could possibly be friend, foe, or food. Occasionally, he'd catch a whiff of a human walking by and grin. Killing and maiming were punishable by expulsion to keep complaining parents happy, but there was nothing against non-life-threatening injuries (students were expected to at least be able to defend themselves against each other), and he planned to take full advantage of that. It looked like it was going to be a good year.
Meanwhile, the humanoid incarnation of the Delvin River in Ireland was walking airily through the campus. His movements were light and floaty, and he had a bright smile on his face. This was the naiad's first proper exploit outside of his riverbank, and he was very excited. He was also very lost. He had been so overwhelmed by the impressive buildings of the academy that he hadn't paid any attention to the girl telling him where to go, and had instead wandered randomly into the school. Upon realizing his siituation, he just shrugged figured that if he kept wandering he'd eventually end up where he needed to be.
((That should be enough to help kick things off for now, I'll bring Scarlet in soon.))

"Hmph. I've finally made it." Ashe Mayflower pushed up his glasses by the bridge with his index finger. "The Academy I've been prepped and groomed to attend..The only Academy worthy of someone with my skill, intellect and charm..The Academy which is going to help me hone my skills, as if I haven't already, and finalize my spot as the greatest Wizard of all time.." Ashe vigorously clentched his fist and crouched down to the ground before springing back up. "DE NUIT ACADEMY!" He shouted with glee, catching the attention of quite a few people passing by through the gates. Ashe didn't mind the attention in the slightest bit. He practically thrives on it.
"It should be around here somewhere.." Gilligan murmured to himself as he examined the school campus map. He wasn't particularly excited to be shipped off to some 'prestigious academy' who couldn't give a damn about. From what Gilligan could gather, his Father didn't want much to do with him anymore so he's just doing whatever he can to get rid of him. He didn't mind being a few thousand miles away from his Father though. A good vacation away from hell seemed heavenly. Gill glanced over at a boy who appeared to be a river spirit that had no set destination but seemed to know the area well since he wasn't scrambling all over the place for his dorm room like everyone else. "Oi." Gilligan called to him, "Do you know where room..B,7 is?"
((goddammit i have absolutely no idea how to include the others so i'll introduce them later))

As Simon was examining the incoming students, he noticed one boy in particular making quite a show of himself. "World's greatest wizard," huh? He knew he should avoid making enemies on the first day, but he couldn't help himself. "Hey, buddy! You lost? I think the Harry Potter convention's down the other road!" he sniggered.
Delvin whirled around suddenly. "Oh, 'ello there! Din't hear ye coming." He spoke with an Irish accent in a voice that seemed to flow. "How ta get ta room B-7? I haven't tha faintest idea," he said airily. "I 'spect if ye keep goin ye'll find it eventually." He smiled brightly.

Although Ashe loved the attention, he always knew that'd it come with rivals or what most people all them, 'haters'. "And you're in luck too, friend! I remember hearing there was a Twilight convention going on just across the street from it!" Ashe warmly smiled at the wise-cracking vampire. He was more than prepared for a new rivalry.
Gilligan blankly stared at him for a solid ten seconds before speaking again. "So are you telling me you're lost too? Great. Just great." He sighed, getting slightly annoyed at his current situation. "I guess..we could search together?" He scratched the back of his head coyly.
((sorry for long pause again. had to do something))

The grin slid off of of Simon's face. "Oh, that's not racist at all," he said sarcastically. He sidled up to Ashe, looking him up and down. Hah, what a wimp... "At least vampires are better in real life than in those books, whereas wizards..." He shook his head and "tsk'd" mockingly. "Harry Potter did more good to your reputation than you ever did yourselves. Just a bunch of soft little humans who learned a few spells and suddenly thought they were the shit. Completely useless without magic." He grinned once more and arched an eyebrow slightly, as if challenging the wizard to retort.
Delvin tilted his head slightly. "Well, I wa'n't really lookin fer anywhere in particular. I usually jus' go wit the flow and en' up where'er I need to be. But sure, I'll go wit ye." He beamed at Gilligan. "Hey, hope ye don't mind me askin, but are ye a ghost?"

A smug grin grew upon Ashe's face. "Vampires? Better in real life than in books?" He managed to say in between chuckles. "A slice of garlic bread and you're jotting down the last page of your will, Dracula."
Gilligan turned his attention back to his map and occasionally glanced at the weird-flowing-hair guy as he was speaking him. "..Uh, yeah. I am." He replied. "And what are you? If you don't mind me asking."

"Hmph. I may be repelled by garlic, but I can still resist almost anything that'd kill you," Simon said dismissively. "Last time I checked, wizards can't withstand poison or a lack of oxygen or a bullet to the head." He narrowed his eyes at Ashe and took a small step forward. "Though I have to say, wizards do have ONE redeeming quality... All that magic in your bloodstream tastes delicious," he said, grinning toothily.
"I'm a naiad!" Delvin said happily. "I'm tha Delvin River-- er, from tha Delvin River-- ehm, it gets complicated when yer a naiad. But you can call me Delvin." He looked interestedly at Gilligan. "I've ne'er seen a real ghost before. Can ye really phase through things 'n stuff?"

Ashe's smug grin turned into a grimace at Simon's rebuttle. He wasn't rather fond of the grin the vampire was giving him, as it made him somewhat uncomfortable. "WELL," Ashe cleared his throat and rested an elbow on his hand and an index finger covering his mouth. He quickly surveyed the area around him and noticed a good number of people standing around watching the two of them sass eachother to no end. Ashe looked back over at Simon and smiled. "That sounded more like a compliment than an insult..and that grin..could it be that you are flirting with me, Dracula?" He said in an innocent sounding voice.
"Why the fuck do they always ask me that..I'm a goddamn ghost what do you think I can do??" Gilligan stared more intently at the map in an atempt to hide his agitated expression from Delvin but ended up having his face go straight through the paper. "..Does this answer your question."

Simon mentally backspaced. That wasn't what he had been expecting at all; normally at this point people were uncomfortable and a bit afraid, and he had been banking on using that to his advantage. He quickly switched to a different game plan. "And... if I am?" he said in a low, smooth voice. Simon stepped forward once more so that he was only inches apart from Ashe. He tilted the wizard's chin up and grinned lecherously. He noted a few feminine gasps from the onlookers they had attracted and chuckled in his head. Humans were so predictable about this sort of thing.
Delvin stared wide-eyed at the ghost. "Wow! Tha's incredible!" he exclaimed, smiling. "Say, Mr. Ghost, what's yer name?" ((can't think of anything more to put for delvi n ug h))

Ashe gulped nervously. His face had noticeably turned a pale red, but that didn't stop him from trying to one-up Simon. He gingerly placed a hand on Simon's cheek and another on his shoulder and moved closer towards his face before saying in a hushed tone, "I'm way out of your league." Many of the females in the crowd began squealing almost in unison.
((should we continue gilligan and delvin's chat or))

Simon could tell from the boy's flush and erratic heartbeat that his confidence was just for show. He had made a few failed attempts at seduction in his lifetime, but he remembered the basics, and was eager to put them into practice to show up the little brat. He used his free hand to grasp the wizard around his lower back and pull him in closer. "Out of my league, huh...?" he whispered into Ashe's ear. He tilted the boy's head slightly to the side to better expose his neck and leaned forward to softly brush his cold lips against it. "You sure about that?"
((we can figure out what to do w/ them tomorrow, I gotta bed))

Ashe felt a cold chill shoot down his spine the moment Simon's lips brushed against the nape of his neck. He slightly pulled away from the vampire and stared into his eyes, as if mesmerized. He then slid his thumb over Simon's lips and heated his thumb using his magic, in an attempt to burn him. "Your lips are fucking cold." He sneered. "Don't you ever touch me with those vile things ever again or I'll melt the damn things off."

Simon quickly batted the wizard's hand away and rubbed his slightly scorched lips. Nevertheless, his grin didn't fade, and he burst into laughter. "Oh, you're rich," he sniggered. "And here I was worried I wouldn't find anyone fun to play with at this school." He glanced around at the crowd surrounding them, which seemed to have grown considerably and was made up mostly of girls. Simon leaned forwards once more to whisper threateningly, "You'll pay for that next time when there's not so many people around." The smile was still on his face, but it didn't match his eyes, which seemed to be trying to burn the wizard with an icy glare.

Ashe smirked while continuing to keep his glare. "Likewise, Dracula. I look forward to it." You could practically see the sparks of electricity collide between the both of them by how intensely they were glaring at each other. This Vampire guy proved to be a worthy opponent against Ashe, which was something Ashe wasn't particularly use to coming across. It was actually quite refreshing to finally have a rival that was up to par with his snarkiness, but he was sure that 'Dracula's magic was nowhere near his level of magic. Ashe grabbed the lower half of his cape and swung it over his torso to cover himself. "As much as it is fun chatting with peons, I'm afraid I must be going." He turned away from Simon and took a step towards the entrance gates, but then stopped to look back at the Vampire one last time. "By the way, what was your name again? It's essential for me to know the name of my new..toy."
